Current fashion trends?

What are the current fashion trends?

2020 was a year that brought significant change to the fashion market as people across the world were hit by a global pandemic that has been heavily impacting our daily lives, routines and priorities when shopping. People were forced to stay at home and adapt life to this scenario, and with fashion, it wasn’t any different. Fashion shows were cancelled or presented digitally, stores were closed, the tendency seen in recent years of working from home became the norm and the way we dress was impacted by this new normal.

Identifying trends and quickly designing and providing consumers with the kind of products they are looking for, is essential to the success of any fashion brand. So what trends should brands keep their eyes on at the moment?

Loungewear

Now, as there’s reason to believe that this difficult period will soon be over, it is undeniable that the pandemic has had a direct influence in the current fashion trends, with the first being comfortable loungewear clothes. Ever since the pandemic began, many fashion brands invested and had high financial returns by investing in creating or expanding their loungewear collections. That is because loungewear offers clients the possibility to wear stylish but versatile, practical and comfortable clothes that are suitable for both indoors and outdoors activities.

Minimal aesthetic

Before covid-19, the fashion industry operated at a fast pace, with up to 6 collections per year in the luxury industry and fast fashion brands managing up to 20 collections every year. Trendy pieces with poor quality but affordable prices were sold almost instantly when hitting the stores, but all of that changed in March 2020. Over the past year, what the fashion industry has seen is that consumers are shopping less often, but are choosing forever pieces with timeless design and good quality, and are willing to pay more for those. With that being said, stylish statement pieces such as blazers, trenchcoats and oversized shirts have been seen as some of the favourites for 2021.

Historical Romance

Quite often in the arts and in fashion, global events that bring uncertainty and change seem to sparkle a need for escapism and hope for a better future. If in one hand clients are looking for minimalistic and timeless clothes, there has also been a rise in the interest for clothes that are the absolute opposite of that: flowy dresses, puffy sleeves, squared necklines, embroidery, sheer fabrics and botanical prints and patterns. Dramatic shapes, corsets and ruffles have been quite popular ever since 2016, when this romantic aesthetic was especially apparent in the collections of Italian brands like Gucci, Prada and Fendi. With the world longing for a better future, dramatic and feminine clothes are making a strong comeback in the fashion scenario.

Neutral Colours

When researching for upcoming trends and designing a collection, one of the key aspects for any brand is to detect which colours have been highlighted in fashion shows and consequently, in trend reports. As consumers look for timeless and longlasting pieces, colour palettes have also shifted from trendy colours to neutral ones. Black, white, sand tones and navy are likely to be the preferred colours for most consumers throughout 2021.

When it comes to tall mens style, tall clothing can be difficult to find. Many stores don't carry clothes that are long enough to fit someone of above-average height. But finding the right clothing for your frame doesn't have to be a challenge. In this blog post, we'll provide some tips on how to find the perfect tall clothing to look stylish and fashionable. From getting the right fit to considering the right fabrics, you'll be able to find clothing that fits your tall stature and looks great. Understanding Your Body Proportions Understanding Your Body Proportions is key to finding clothing that fits and flatters your tall frame. When it comes to tall mens style, it's important to consider the unique proportions that come with above-average height. One size does not fit all, especially when it comes to tall clothing. Pattern cutting for tall men takes into account the longer limbs and torso that come with being tall. This means that clothing designed specifically for tall men will have longer sleeve and hem lengths, ensuring a proper fit. To find the right size, refer to a tall mens size chart, which will provide measurements and guidance on choosing the correct size for your height. It's also worth exploring tall mens shops, both in-store and online. These specialty stores cater specifically to the needs of taller individuals, offering a wide range of clothing options that are designed with tall proportions in mind. These shops often carry clothing with extended lengths, such as tall-sized shirts and trousers, ensuring a comfortable and stylish fit. Understanding your body proportions is not just about finding the right size, but also about knowing how to dress to enhance your height. Certain clothing styles, such as vertical stripes, can create an elongating effect, making you appear even taller. On the other hand, oversized clothing or excessive layering can overwhelm your frame, so it's important to strike a balance and choose clothing that complements your height. Essential Wardrobe Pieces for Tall Men When it comes to building a wardrobe as a tall man, there are a few essential pieces that should be on your list. These items are not only stylish, but also designed to flatter and fit your taller frame. First, let's talk about the importance of pattern cutting for tall men. This technique takes into account the longer limbs and torso that come with being tall, ensuring that clothing is properly proportioned. When shopping for essential wardrobe pieces, look for brands that prioritize pattern cutting for tall men. This will ensure that items like shirts and trousers have longer sleeve and hem lengths, giving you the perfect fit. Next, refer to a tall mens size chart when choosing clothing. This chart will provide measurements and guidance on selecting the correct size for your height. It's essential to know your measurements and shop accordingly, as this will save you time and frustration when it comes to finding clothing that fits. Consider exploring tall mens shops, both in-store and online. These specialty stores cater specifically to the needs of taller individuals, offering a wide range of clothing options designed with tall proportions in mind. They often carry clothing with extended lengths, such as tall-sized shirts and trousers, ensuring a comfortable and stylish fit. Now, let's dive into the essential wardrobe pieces for tall men. Start with a well-fitting suit. A tailored suit is a must-have for any tall man, as it will accentuate your height and give you a polished look. Look for suits with longer jackets and trousers that are properly hemmed to match your height. Invest in some quality dress shirts. Opt for styles with longer sleeves and torso lengths to ensure a proper fit. Crisp white shirts are versatile and can be dressed up or down for various occasions. When it comes to casual wear, a good pair of jeans is a must. Look for jeans with a longer inseam to avoid the dreaded ankle-baring look. Dark wash jeans are always a classic choice, but feel free to experiment with different washes and styles to find what suits you best. Don't forget about outerwear. A well-fitting trench coat or overcoat can add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. Look for options with longer sleeves and hem lengths to accommodate your taller frame. How to Shop for Clothes that Fit When it comes to shopping for clothes that fit your tall frame, there are a few key strategies to keep in mind. First and foremost, make use of a tall mens size chart. This invaluable tool will provide you with the measurements and guidance needed to select the correct size for your height. It takes the guesswork out of shopping and ensures that you are getting clothing that will actually fit. Additionally, consider exploring tall mens shops, both in-store and online. These specialty stores cater specifically to the needs of taller individuals, offering a wide range of clothing options designed with tall proportions in mind. From tall-sized shirts to trousers with extended lengths, you can find pieces that are both stylish and comfortable. Plus, shopping at these specialty stores eliminates the frustration of trying to find clothing in mainstream stores that simply don't carry options for taller men. When shopping, it's also important to try things on and take advantage of return policies. Sizes can vary across brands, so even with a tall mens size chart, it's always a good idea to try things on before making a final decision. Don't be afraid to experiment with different styles and cuts to find what works best for you. The Do's and Don'ts of Layering Layering is a key technique for creating stylish and functional outfits, especially for tall men. However, there are some important do's and don'ts to keep in mind when layering as a taller individual. First, let's talk about the do's of layering. Do opt for thinner layers, as bulky or heavy fabrics can add unnecessary bulk to your frame. Instead, choose lightweight fabrics that can easily be layered without overwhelming your height. Layering with thinner fabrics also allows for better movement and comfort throughout the day. Another do is to play with proportions. As a taller man, you have the advantage of being able to experiment with different lengths and silhouettes. Try layering a longer cardigan or sweater over a shorter shirt for a stylish contrast. You can also experiment with different lengths of jackets or coats to create a visually interesting layered look. Do consider adding texture to your layers. Mixing different textures, such as a chunky knit sweater with a smooth leather jacket, adds depth and visual interest to your outfit. This can create a more sophisticated and stylish look. Now, let's move on to the don'ts of layering. Don't overdo it with too many layers. While layering can be a great way to add dimension to your outfit, piling on too many layers can create a bulky and overwhelming look. Instead, aim for a balanced and streamlined appearance by choosing a few well-thought-out layers. Don't forget about proportions. While playing with proportions can be fun, it's important to strike the right balance. Avoid combining multiple oversized pieces in one outfit, as this can make you appear larger than you actually are. Instead, pair one oversized piece with more fitted garments to create a well-proportioned look. Lastly, don't forget about functionality. Layering is not just about style, but also about staying comfortable in changing temperatures. Make sure to choose fabrics that are breathable and allow for easy movement. Additionally, consider the weather and the activities you'll be engaging in throughout the day when deciding on your layers. Tips for Accessorizing as a Tall Man Accessorizing is a crucial aspect of any outfit, and as a tall man, you have the opportunity to enhance your height and add a touch of style through your accessories. Here are some tips to help you accessorize in a way that complements your tall frame. First, consider the scale of your accessories. Opt for pieces that are proportional to your height. Avoid small, delicate accessories that may get lost on your larger frame. Instead, go for statement pieces that will add a bold touch to your overall look. A chunky watch, a wide-brimmed hat, or a statement belt buckle can all be great choices. Next, think about the positioning of your accessories. Strategically placing accessories can help create visual interest and draw the eye up, accentuating your height. For example, wearing a longer necklace can create a vertical line, making you appear even taller. Similarly, wearing a pocket square or a patterned tie can draw attention upwards and elongate your silhouette. When it comes to bags and backpacks, opt for larger sizes that are proportionate to your height. A small bag can look out of place on a tall frame, so choose options with larger dimensions that will balance your proportions. Lastly, don't be afraid to experiment with different accessory styles and colors. Accessories are a great way to showcase your personal style and add pops of color to your outfit. Whether it's a colorful scarf, a patterned tie, or a bold pair of sunglasses, accessories can be the perfect finishing touch to elevate your overall look. Footwear for Tall Men When it comes to tall mens style, finding the right footwear is just as important as the rest of your outfit. Not only do you want shoes that fit well and are comfortable, but you also want options that complement your height and style. Luckily, there are plenty of footwear options available for tall men that tick all the boxes. One key consideration when it comes to footwear for tall men is to choose styles that provide good support and stability. With longer limbs, it's important to have shoes that offer proper cushioning and arch support to keep you comfortable throughout the day. Look for brands that specialise in footwear for tall individuals or offer extended sizes, as they will likely have options designed to accommodate your needs. In terms of style, tall men have the advantage of being able to pull off a variety of shoe styles. Whether you prefer sneakers, boots, dress shoes, or loafers, there are plenty of options available in extended sizes that will fit your feet comfortably. When choosing footwear, consider the overall look you want to achieve and select styles that enhance your height. For example, sleek dress shoes can add sophistication and elegance to a formal outfit, while stylish sneakers can give a casual look a cool and contemporary edge. When it comes to colour, tall men can experiment with a range of options. Neutral shades like black, brown, and navy are timeless and versatile choices that can be paired with a variety of outfits. However, don't be afraid to add a pop of colour or experiment with patterns to inject some personality into your footwear. Tailoring and Alterations: When and Why to Invest Tailoring and alterations can be a game-changer for tall men when it comes to achieving the perfect fit and looking their best. While finding clothing specifically designed for tall men can be helpful, sometimes it's still necessary to invest in tailoring and alterations to achieve that flawless fit. One of the main reasons to invest in tailoring is to address the issue of sleeve and hem lengths. Many off-the-rack garments are not designed to accommodate the longer limbs and torso that come with being tall. However, with the help of a skilled tailor, you can have sleeves and hems adjusted to the perfect length for your frame. This simple alteration can make a huge difference in how your clothes fit and look on you. Another reason to invest in tailoring is to ensure that your clothing follows the contours of your body properly. Off-the-rack clothing is often made to fit a generic body shape, which means it may not fit perfectly in all areas. By having items tailored, you can eliminate any excess fabric or bulk, resulting in a more streamlined and flattering silhouette. Tailoring and alterations also allow you to customize your clothing to suit your personal style. Maybe you prefer a slimmer fit or want to add unique details to your garments. A tailor can help you achieve these customizations, ensuring that your clothing reflects your individuality and fits you like a glove. When it comes to investing in tailoring and alterations, it's important to choose a skilled and experienced tailor. Look for someone who has expertise in working with taller individuals and understands the unique challenges that come with tall mens style. A good tailor will be able to guide you on the necessary alterations for each garment and help you achieve the best possible fit.

Then, advise on paying close attention to proportion, such as wearing fitted tops with looser bottoms or vice versa, to balance the body. Next, advise against wearing clothes with excessive volumes, such as baggy tops and overly wide pants, as they can overwhelm a petite frame. Explain how these styles can elongate the legs and balance the proportions of a petite body. For outerwear, recommend cropped jackets and blazers, and belted coats. Explain how these styles can create a fitted silhouette and accentuate the waistline, making a petite figure appear more proportionate. In all clothing recommendations, emphasise the importance of fit and encourage petite women to try on different styles to find what works best for their body type. With the rise of the sustainable and ethical consumer, thrifted garments are becoming a familiar consumer choice. There is a growing recognition of the detrimental effects of fast fashion, especially, with the green consumer. An accessible, yet inexpensive alternative has charitable benefits: what more could a green consumer want? The ability to shop second hand creates a circular economy within the fashion industry. Extending the longevity of garments is one of many ways which consumers seek a sustainable alternative. The ability to shop second hand whether that be through Depop, eBay or your local charity shops is somewhat a privilege. It is easy to discuss the perks of second-hand consumption, however, is thrifting accessible for everyone? Is it unreasonable for the sustainable consumer to expect everyone to shop second-hand? The demand for consumption to be sustainable is high, it is easy enough to scroll through your social media to find persuasive infographics sending you to shop second-hand. However, can we really suggest every consumer can shop second-hand? With second-hand shopping, garment size ranges are not guaranteed. As we all know, body shapes are individual to us. Is it accessible to all body types to shop second-hand? The plus size community has voiced the difficulties in shopping second-hand. With the size ranges not guaranteed, it can be extremely difficult to find quality fitting garments. It is not only different body types which struggle to source garments second-hand. With consuming second-hand, it is easy to expect consumers to search through charity shops for garments. However, do all consumers have an excess of time and resources to do this? It is unfair to assume second-hand clothing is accessible to all for this reason. Second-hand shopping offers a sustainable alternative by creating a circular economy, it is easy to forget that it isn’t accessible to all consumers. This raises the question of whether sustainability is offered at a high-street level. Can high-street consumers easily access sustainable and ethical garments? Is there awareness of what it means for a garment to be sustainable? As the fashion industry continues to push towards a sustainable future, Clothing manufacturers both here and in India have noticed there is a gap in the market for sustainability at a high-street level. The increased prices for sustainable garments seem somewhat unavoidable. Yet, is it fair to expect a rise in a green consumer without a market for high-street priced sustainability?

Respected most clothing manufacturers in London, around the UK and further overseas like clothing manufacturers in India tend to have a vast number of enquiries daily, the easiest alternative for them is to not reply rather than exchanging numerous uncertain emails. There are many ways to successfully contact a clothing manufacturer in the uk and overseas; starting with ensuring your enquiry is direct. Lots of designers contact manufacturers with vague, undetailed messages, this leaves the manufacturer assuming they lack experience and knowledge. It is critical to answer Who, What, Why and When in your enquiry, this ensures the main points needed are covered. Starting with “Who”; “Who” is your chance to briefly introduce yourself. This will help set a good relationship with the manufacturer and allow them to understand your ideas better. “What” is a critical question when enquiring, this is the decider of whether they respond. “What” is the product you plan to produce with the manufacturer. It is essential to describe the product in-depth so the manufacturer can visualise your plan. It is important to include your choice of fabric; this means they can ensure they have the correct machinery and knowledge of working with the fabric. “Why”, this is where you state if you want samples or production. As important as sampling is, manufacturers gain less from this process. It can be very time consuming and is not always profitable for them. Whereas, production is where manufacturers acquire the majority of their money. Being clear in the first step of the process comforts the manufacturer in terms of their business. “When”, this sets a timeline for both you and the manufacturers. The timeframe you set is a key piece of information and lets them know how knowledgeable you are. Allowing the maximum timeframe is best, experienced designers have an understanding of the manufacturing process and the problems which can easily arise. By setting exact dates for production, you are both on the same page, this ensures that you maintain a strong positive, respectful relationship with your manufacturer. Therefore, it is important to do your own research to estimate a timeframe or enquire with the manufacturer’s themselves. To conclude, the initial enquiry addressing a manufacturer is the decider. This first enquiry needs to include the essential pointers which have been previously mentioned. It can be easier to write the enquiry by imagining what you would include if you spoke to the manufacturer face-to-face. By keeping the enquiry brief but still including key points in an easy to read lay out, the manufacturer can focus on the product in hand. As previously mentioned, be as clear and transparent with the manufacturer from the start.

That being said, as consumers it is hard to define these terms and understand what brands are ‘really’ selling us. Even with knowledge of what these terms mean, can we, as consumers, trust these brands and believe their production to end of life cycle is truly ethical? With the rise of technology, our ability to access information online is at ease. The accessibility of endless information has shown us that the way we live our lives has a harmful effect on our environment. A recognisable habit to most is over-consumption, endless shopping to fulfil our wants, not needs. Overconsumption is hard to resolve in the society we now live in, however, there are approaches which the fashion industry have in place to reduce harm. One of the ways the industry attempts to reduce harm is by enforcing ethical manufacturing. This involves the use of a manufacturing process which ensures good health for everyone involved in the production process. As mentioned previously, our increased understanding of the detrimental effects of fashion production has led to brands having to become more responsible. As the rise of an ethically concerned consumer increases, brands have been able to use this as an advantage and have been able to achieve significant benefits from their approaches. Although as consumers these terms are used so often by fashion brands to grab our attention, they can be difficult to differentiate. The term “ethical” is an umbrella term which can describe a variety of sections of the industry. There is the ability to have ethical design, production and retail. In addition, as consumers, we have the ability to choose to consumer ethically. The term ethical can be defined to cover many issues including: fair trade; animal welfare; exploitation; and working conditions. This brings us back to the original question, is ethical manufacturing possible? Although there is the ability for manufacturing to be “ethical” it does fall down to personal opinion and values. This is different for each consumers, however, it is now a preferred lifestyle choice for some consumers now.

The fashion industry was hit particularly hard by the impact of the pandemic. With uncertainty of financial stability, consumers were holding tight to their money and sales became harder to obtain. The pandemic has taught us a lot, but to those of us who have spent the majority of it in isolation it has made us aware of our persistent relationship with social media. Endless scrolling past influencers on Instagram, whether subconscious or not, has probably led us as consumers to an unnecessary purchase. Influencers have been on the rise since 2010, with the recognition of influencers in 2010 appearing in street style photos at Fashion Week. Influencers offer a personal shopper experience, however, through a distant virtual comfort. The accessible links to exact products and reviews of products, what more could a consumer want? Brands have recognised the importance of influencers in terms of creating profits: in 2019, brands spent $8 billion on influencers, contributing to an excess of sponsored social media posts, partnerships and collaborations. With access to personal insights of an influencer’s lifestyle, our relationship as consumers is stronger than ever with influencers. As it reaches months of virtual interaction with friends and family, will we start to view influencers on a similar level? Without the ability to walk down the high-street and purchase garments on display in stores, there is a slim chance of us, consumers, being aware of the newest trends. As previously mentioned, our excess of lockdown social media presence, this virtual interaction is the current way of communicating new styles and trends. The ability to hear from a person, not corporations, offers a more valuable yet personal shopping experience. With influencers not only promoting the product, but usually offering several ways to style the garment and more, the urge to purchase is at its highest. Influencers create the urgency to need a product, with the need to impress others at an absolute high throughout lockdowns, visual purchases fulfil this common societal concern. Should the fashion industry really thank influencers for their sales? The correlation between influencer presence for brands and sales is difficult to ignore. The significant difference in sales leaves influencers to be a major factor in high-street level consumption. However, should all fashion brands thank influencers? It is unreasonable to expect influencers to have a positive impact on sales throughout the industry. However, it is easy to turn a blind eye to the lack of influencers supporting small upcoming fashion brands. The real question here is should influencers progress and start to support independent fashion brands during an unstable year of sales?
